P.A.T testing
Portable appliance testing is a process where engineers trained to specific standards will arrive on site to test, inspect and certify your appliances at a set annual, bi-annual or monthly basis, (Depending on your circumstance & requirements). As per the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 state:"Every employer shall make suitable and sufficient assessment of:
a) the risks to the health and safety of his/her employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work, and
b) the risks to the health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him or his undertaking". (Regulation 3(1))
In short, your employees have a right to work in a safe envirmonment, and although appliances may seem harmless, you cannot be sure that everthing your employees work with / alongside, be it handheld or portable isn't faulty and an accident waiting to happen!
Afterall, the HSE state that 25% of ALL reported electrical accidents involve portable appliances.
